Blog: RAGE – what an appropriate title

I’m a few hours into the single player campaign of the new game from id Software, RAGE, and I’m perplexed. By the time I finish it and have enough hands-on time to formulate my review, the game will probably be completely fixed via patches and driver updates. However, the entire reason I’m even writing this post right now is because the game just froze up on me for the umpteenth time during a loading screen. That shouldn’t happen, period, but it does, and it’s currently an issue that I would mention if my review were to go up right now. Like I said, though, the issues are likely to be resolved soon, and that leads me to wonder if they’re even worth mentioning in the review at all.

The game itself is one thing, but the bugs aren’t an intended part of it, so do I let them drag the final grade down, or do I wait and see if they’re fixed before publishing a review?

I certainly found the issues in Crysis 2 worth mentioning, and some of those (like the AI) will likely never be fixed.

Honestly, I have faith that John Carmack & Company will actually come through for RAGE, but it’s a pain to have to sit and wait for updates to a game just so you can get through it, especially when you’re being expected to churn out a review.

Get it together, guys. Make sure these things are at least playable before releasing them into the wild.
